My BT is 15 months old. At what age will he (typically) be mature? When do you know if that is his personality for life? I keep reading things about dogs changing from being out going puppies to grumpy dogs at a couple of years old (owners claim without outside influence).

At the moment he is epic, he's not yappy and he gets on with everyone. Recall is hit and miss but we're workig on that. Barring outside influence, can I pretty much expect him to stay like this (all be it a bit calmer as he matures).

I've already read somewhere that BT's don't start to get their 'hunting instinct' until about 18 months old??? He'll chase birds, rabbits and deer but he never goes out of his way to hunt, he just enjoys the run (and I he'd probably try and play with them if he caught up with them!)

I figure between a year and 18 months. Re character, one of mine changed from being quite a monster to totally adorable between 2 and now, nearly 3. Probably more to do with us changing the way we handled him but there were big changes.

Depends on the breed. I would say in my own breed, the dog is not fully mature until 2-2.5 yrs. The teenage phase can certainly last 9-24 mths and drives that were not present as pups can manifest themselves much later (IE a dog raised with livestock who ignored small furry things in puppyhood can still develop a strong prey drive).

My BT is 3 and she responds to 'Puppy' :o

Physically I would say she matured at around 18months, I'm not sure she is a dog we will ever describe as mature mentally. She is a loonatic.

Hunting instinct still isn't really there, she loves to chase but that is about it!

I have a pair of boxers who will be 10 and 11 years old this year. 'Mature' is not really the word I associate with them. :D:D
I think it also depends on the individual dog, as well as breed.

*enter owner of seven year old who thinks he's six months and people are desperate to get his kisses...* :D
