Going on from the 1x bute/ danillion a day post, I just wondered how much you think is acceptable for a retired horse to be on to be able to live happily as a field ornament? The horse in question is very happy and looks great but riddled with artritis.
One sachet per day? two per day? three per day?

Opinions please!

For an elderly, retired horse, I'd say however much he needs to remain content as long as the treatment isn't worse than the cure. So, eg, if the amount of pain relief he needs is starting to give him colicky symtpoms from ulcers then you'd need to reconsider. Other than that, as a bona fide veteran myself, let me tell you that many days it's only the magic of 400mg Ibuprofen that gets me out of bed in the morning!!! If it's particularly bad, I have to take Omeprazole (like Gastroguard) to prevent stomach ulcers. But never, not once, ever have I wished to be pushing up the daisies because of it! My vet tells me that her very elderly ned is on bute for pain relief from various arthritic aches and pains, but ned can still thunder up the field when she hears the rattle of the feed bucket! They do let you know when they've had enough x
