My horse is hopefully going out on loan this weekend, in the end it turned out that he was not what i was looking for in a horse (i.e transpired he napps, bucks, rears, broncs, leaps etc which i can sit to most of the time etc but not what i want).
So as he is going out on loan i will need to get saving the pennies etc.
But....if i am going to buy another horse, when really is the time to buy??
Would it be in the autumn when people are off to uni? or does everyone hang onto their decent horses after the summer season has finished untill the spring so that they can sell them ready for people to go out and do things over the summer?

At the moment in the south west all that seems to be for sale is 4 or 5 year olds, i would be looking more for something 8 yrs + that has done a bit of everything. A schoolmaster type...but not a kick along :-D

I've always found there are LOADS of horses for sale May time.... But if you want to grab a bargain Sept/Oct time is always good!

Ah i c.

Its not definate that i am going to definately buy at the moment, i have been offered a horse on loan, but i want to get a good sum of money saved up and so that i can buy something that i can have fun on and keep for many years to come.
But if it was going to be better to buy in the autumn, then i would poss be able to get a loan (money) etc.
I know its a case of the best time to buy a horse is when the perfect horse comes up for sale!

Always best to look for horses at the end of the summer as you're more likely to get a bargain - people dont want to have to feed them through the winter but might have hung onto them for the summer to get some competitions/riding out of them :D

and people going to uni too.

I am wondering if the market might pick up a bit in september time as at the moment there really isnt much out there well not in the south west so it seems!

Skychick I don't know if you are in a position to buy right now but I do know of a nice 8yr old gelding that would suit the above criteria for sale in Devon for reasonable money. It's a friends and she hasn't advertised. Prefers to sell him through word of mouth to a good home. Don't want to say too much on here for fear of getting in trouble but pm me if u want more details.
