As many of you know, Nova has been at rehab livery for 2.5 weeks now and everything has been going well. I got a call yesterday saying she was colicking, it looked spasmodic and quite mild. I was obviously worried but she’s colicked like that before and been absolutely fine so I thought she’d be okay in a few hours.

Another call once the vet had been there and it’s impaction colic. She was tubed and monitored overnight (honestly the woman who owns the rehab facility was just so good). This morning, still no poos so the vet is called out again.

Impaction is worse than they originally thought - doughy and still no poos. So she has been admitted to our horsepital and I’m just playing a waiting game.

I know impaction colic doesn’t necessarily mean the worst, but that’s where my brain is especially after knowing three horses already this year die of it.

I’m just exhausted

Sorry to hear that, it is so difficult when they are on rehab and they are more prone to colic sadly when they are not having grass or moving around so much due to box rest.

Coca cola can be good to flush out impactions.
