wait for jump to come to you and when horse jumps you get into position? i cannot seem to get it right! im early every time! should i just be sitting keeping my leg on and waiting till horse goes forward? i keep saying to myself wait wait, even have other half standing at side shouting wait and legs haha! jumping advice please!!!!

Personally, as many others do, I get into position as the horse takes off. Timing comes with practice, it will be second nature to you after a while, keep trying and you will get it

Sit with the canter or ride into a normal rising trot if you aren't confident in canter approaches, keep your leg on to create impulsion and plenty of "forward" as when the horse is not going forward, they tend to refuse, sometimes knocking confidence.

Do you have an instructor?

you could have a placing pole either in canter or trot so the horses take off is regular so you can practise the folding on take off.

also can you do some grip work so you can practise folding and sitting up then folding again????

yea i have an instructor but lesson can add up t be rather expensive and she has a busy schedule! my horse has the mind set of your taking me over this! so i have t keep my leg on all time! where as my mare flees over them! i have landed on his neck few times n given myself bit of fright. he does seem t go better faster but its gettin him there!

Sit and wait for the shoulders to come up to you. If you have an experienced person who can satnd on the ground and shout 'fold' at you when you should be doing it, this'll help you to feel the timing.

I always got told to sit up and be patient, keep a rhythm and the fence will come to you, then just go with the horse. I had/have crept back into the habit of tipping forward and rushing my horse into the fence

Did also find that doing gridwork exercises helped, and watching videos of myself jumping so I could see exactly what I was doing wrong!

yeah, i wait till the horse goes.. i often find counting the strides in the approach helps me! grids are also very good, because you have to get used to counting and sitting up quickly. placing poles are also great because you can see the last stride! good luck! x

I had a clinic the other week and the instructor said that a large majority of falls are caused by the rider folding too early. He told me to sit on my ass 'because that's what it's there for'(!) and let the jump come to me. Already I feel my jumping has improved!
