Following my post a week or so ago (http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/2895393/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1) I have an update if anyone's wondering. It's been the week from hell basically with the father going round punching walls, threatening me etc

The mother did try to smooth the situation over but then he rings me up and is a right *&%$ again.

To cut a long story short, we agreed their last day would be Sat and I would take her Sunday. On Friday he rings up saying I needed to take her Saturday now or else he couldn't say what would happen to the horse. I explained I couldn't take her Sat (I had had to book a horse box to move us) and I would be taking her Sunday as I'd agreed with his wife and daughter. He then proceeded to ring me all day I just ignored the phone.

On Sat I went to fetch my tack and stuff (they still won't give me the passport or vaccination card back)

and he was there hassling me saying she couldn't stay there that night and she had to go that day and I ignored him. He then rang and rang all day and at 6pm left me a voicemail saying she was out in the torrential rain, in a stable rug on her own! I rang my friend who was up there seeing to her horse and she wasn't at all he was just being a d*&k.

I picked her up yesterday morning and she walked straight into the horse box even though shes not travelled for years and took her to the new yard. She settled on the new yard straight away! Had a mosey round the field, had a roll and then started eating bless her!! Completely unfazed by it all. I am still walking round like this

I feel like a kid at Christmas or something!! So thanks for all your moral support and I can't wait to make the most of this new chapter in our lives.

God what a nightmare situation

Well done for keeping your temper and cool whilst the dad was being such an idiot !
So pleased to hear that she is home and happy.

Glad to hear you've got your horse back. Regarding the passport I would contact the issuing agency & speak to them. They should be able to cancel the original one & issue a new one. I think you'll then have to start the vaccination programme again as a vet won't post date jab details.

Most important is that you've got the horse home....good luck.

Thanks everyone. I would never, ever, ever loan her out again after this. As I said before if anyone is loaning out please make sure you have a contract although in my case I don't think it would have made a difference. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't played by the rules and that I would have just gone and taken her but hindsight is a wonderful thing!!

My heart goes out to the others who said they are in similar situations.

It sounds like you have found yourself in the middle of a domestic between husband and wife

. I'm so glad you've got your horse back safe and sound, it must be a huge relief.

I used to know a man very much like the one you have described, so I can guess how unpleasant and scary the whole thing has been.

Are you going to try to get the passport back? Or is that just too much hassle? Isn't it an offence for them not to transfer it with the horse?

Anyway, well done

Thanks Neil. Yes I did wonder if he just bully's them like he tried to do with me? Either that or they were playing good cop bad cop.

I don't know what else I can do to get the passport/vaccination card back other than go to the police and report it as theft? But that's just dragging the situation on....

Could they get arrested though? They'd probably just say that they did give it back or they did leave it with my stuff? I have no desire to ring them and say anything to be honest.

Go back to the passport issuing office and explain what has happened - they will help you sort out the best way forward and don't worry about the vaccination record - it will all be on your vets computer and they can simply update your passport with the details. They are fine about that as you are not asking them to backdate anything- just update your passport as the previous one was stolen. In fact you probably just need to get the vets to print out their records and you can attach that to your passport.

Well done you for getting her back. Some people are a nightmare.

I really feel for you. I was in a similar situation last year when i took my horse back off loan. The people were VERY difficult as to when i could pick the horse up. It all ended in a horrid way and i have never ever felt so upset or worried in my entire life! The minute my horse was in the trailer i had the most amazing feeling of sheer relief! I really would never ever loan a horse out ever again. It was the worst experience i have ever faced since having horses.
Im so glad that you have your horse back. Do threaten them about the passport though....you should not have to pay out more money just because they are being difficult. it is worth persueing but make sure you write to them and not call them so you have written proof, also send all correspondence recored delivery so you can prove you sent it.

Good luck...you have handled this very well.

I have been wondering about your situation, thanks for updating. I am so glad you got your horse back safely, it must be the most enormous relief for you.

The father sounds like a nasty bully, I feel rather sorry for the mum and daughter, but at least you are well shot of the whole pack of them now.

Well done for getting your horse back. There are many cases like yours, and at the end of the day its theft, and how the lowlifes that do it can sleep at night i,ll never know, again well done

Thank you for updating us. So pleased the outcome was positive and that you have your horse back.

So pleased you have got your horse back safe and well, you acted in such a calm manner. As I said in your last thread (and Bosworth has said above) your vet can update a new Passport with all the Vaccination details, so you just need to have a word with your PIO about getting a duplicate Passport.
