Getting bored with this weather now but looking forward to the time I can ride again.
My mare has gotten so furry since her last clip and really needing to do it. I know its real cold but only on holiday for another week then the chance of clipping after that is real slim. Should I just go for it just now and rug accordingly in the hope I will get to ride again.
You spend all this time getting them fit and trying to keep them fit I cant even get out the yard to go on a hack and everything is so slippy at least she is turned out. I havent ridden for over two weeks now and counting......

Why clip at all if you're not doing enough to warrant it?
We have made the decision this winter not to clip Ellie at all, unless I by some miracle find the time to put some proper work into her. It grieves me seeing her hairy and shaggy in a barn full of immaculate clipped out hunters, but ultimately I am far happier knowing she's not having to be rugged up to the eye balls when she's just stood in 24/7 - it's a lot better for her

I have been able to ride more this week but even then, I'm not doing enough to make her sweat badly - so again, why bother clipping?

I'm not clipping my boy yet. No point, he is only pootling about on hacks with me he isn't working hard enough to warrant having his warm winter coat taken off.

As soon as this baby is born though he will be clipped as I fully intend to start working him hard

My boy was clipped on sunday- was very cold but he was sweating up after only 5 minutes on the lunge or ridden as he'd grown a fair coat as was clipped beginning October. He's worked 5 times a week at the moment and I didn't like him damp and sweaty in the cold. As I have the use of an indoor school I clipped however if I wasn't riding/ just hacking steady I wouldnt bother.

He's rugged up well and Ive left a big patch on his belly where the rug doesn't cover! ( not girth area)

If a horse is doing enough to warrent it I say clip, if not in any/ much work I don't see the point, after all, clipping is to benefit the horse.

I know people with out of work retired ponies who clip them so they dont feel left out when their others (in work) have full clips and heavy rugs on...

Mine is woolly-ish (been clipped before), is in full work and not getting sweaty... may do a trace clip or something this weekend, but tbh I hate clippng so much may leave her... we will see!! Only reason I may clip her is the fact we have a lesson on the 9th where she will sweat up...

Four of ours need doing
