So i have 2 New Forest mares due end of June and beginning of July. They both normally live on fresh air but are starting to need more now- hay, more grass.
But when should i start feeding hard feed? And what?

Any suggestions much appreciated

If they do need feeding then use a good brand Stud Mix.
They shouldn't really need that till the last few months but with them being due June/July they will be having the best of the Spring grass so really shouldn't need much at all.
Mine live out till a couple of months before foaling and will have just had haylage and Vit/Mineral blocks and they seem to do really well on that and I'm breeding TB's.

feed mineral and vit suppliment, as much hay as they want.
otherwise they are at greater risk of post foaling laminitis
top spec do a powder one or baileys do a pelletted balancer so it wont add calories or cause laminitis.
(i used either or during my mares pregancy and post foaling and she coped great-shes also a good doer TBX!)
