when they say 300grams of filling(for example)

How is this measured? IS that 300 grams per square foot/inch/metre or over the whole rug?

Per square metre I believe, so it just follows that the higher the grammes, the thicker and heavier it is.

The 300gm relates to the filling, but this can be quite misleading as the lining and outer shell can vary quite significantly and, therefore, the overall warmth of one 300gm filled rug might be very different to another. It would make a lot more sense if manufacturers quoted in Tog value like a duvet which would give a proper idea of the warmth of each product... dont suppose they ever will though as it would cost money to measure each product!
