I have a 3 and a half year old newforest x welsh gelding whose winter coat is really coming through now a couple more weeks and it will be through fully, over the winter he is going to be in light to medium work a couple of fun rides the odd hack out and schooling a few times a week depending on weather I took him round the block yday did mainly walk and had a little trot and he sweated so I'm going to give him a neck and belly clip but whens best to do it were doing a fun ride on october 28th so should I clip before then or after?

I'd clip before the ride at the end of the month. I once hunted mine before he'd had his first clip of the winter (lady who was due to clip him fell ill) and he was horrendously sweaty and I worried that he'd get a chill whenever we were standing around. He lost condition that day cos of it:(

I would have thought that horses need to be 4 to take part in a fun ride, may be in the regulations. As for clipping, anytime now, but you may have to re-clip in a couple of weeks as the hair is still growing.

No rules or regulations for this one in particular its turn up on the day pay off u go prize for fancy dress at the end and a rozzie for evry1 who rides.
