Have just read the post on what supplements you all feed, and some of you have put - electrolytes when worked hard.

So, you don't add a scoop every day then? do you just feed before the hard work - eg HT or hunt - or after??

Help please for Electrolye Ignoramus. xx

i only feed elec's after a xc or a xc training sess or hunting?

but mildred doesnt really like them

poor old girl mummy knows best lol

chris - thats a really good article, thanks. I now add salt to their feeds, so I have made a start.

Carmenlucy - I think I will use them as you do - after fast work.

thank you for the advice. x

Sorry to hi-jack but how do people get theres to eat them!
i have tried in feeds in water even in a jam sandwhich (his fav!) the only way i can get them dowm him is syringe when diluted

Mine only get them after xc or half dose if they have sweated up heavily in the summer. They all have a salt lick in their stables and some get salt in their feeds if they are poor drinkers.
I got told that horses can not store electrolytes up so a waste to feed them before the exercise.
I have never had any problems getting mine to eat them. ATM I am feeding TRM isopro 2000 that taste/smell of aniseed, every one seems to love them.

The david marlin article is excellent.
Deefa - i put mine in their feed. Have you tried a different brand? I use nettex carl hester liquid one and have not had a problem. Different brands have different flavours, experiment to find one your horse will eat

Thanks, will try a different brand
Have tried Applytes i think there called - smell like sherbert! and one which didn't really have a smell (or didn't seem to!)

It depends on the horse. I used to feed my last horse electrolytes daily when he competed (spring-autumn) as he was a very hot, sweaty type. But with my current horse, I only give it in the days leading up to an ODE and a few days after. For something slightly less sweaty (ie. non XC) like BSJA then I'll just give some the day before, on the day and day after. I make my own up - 1/2 low salt and 1/2 table salt.
