I feel like I am ready to give up horses but I’m not sure if I am just having a loss of motivation.

I’m currently trying to find a new horse with absolutely no luck and my current one is fine, but is looking for a slower pace of life at the moment.

I feel like all I do is worry and stress. But then if I give up, what do I do with my time? My current livery yard is very difficult to get a space on so I’ll be screwed if I leave and then get another in a few months if I decide giving up isnt for me.

Poor you. It is a hard question to answer, but I think the fact that you are still looking indicates that you have some will to carry on. Sprogladited's idea is a good one, and I think the main thing is to take the worry and stress out of the situation. You can keep looking, and a horse who is a good fit may come up, or they may not. Either way nothing you can do other than keep looking. The only thing that I would be careful not to do in your situation would be to buy something unsuitable out of desperation. It is always easier to own no horse than to own the wrong horse. Good luck, and I hope that you find the right way forward.

Horse shopping at the moment is mad and stressful, especially if you want what everyone else wants. Even in the last two years, I do think the market has slowed a bit in autumn/winter. Would it be worth waiting until, say, October, and looking again? That would give you more time to decide if you did want to give up, as well?

I feel your pain. I’m at a cross roads with horses at the moment. Some of it’s the horse and some it’s just life in general and everything feels like life is conspiring against me. Once I’m properly up and running with the horse I think I’ll be alright but similar to you, it feels like a million miles and easier to give up and sell up. I’m not sure I’ve even got the motivation to go to the effort of selling up though either!

Hang in there - things will get better.

Let me know how you get on x

Thank you everyone. I did think about putting my horse on loan but I’m so particular that it would probably take me ages to find the right person. I am honestly just drained - financially and emotionally

Don't give up. Never give up. Your day will come, your new horse will come, in the mean time think of something fun to do with your current horse, even if it's just taking a walk in hand for some good grass. We're really lucky to hang round with horses, they're great. Think of all the people that just watch bloody football, or spend all their money getting drunk and doing stuff they don't even remember  ;)

When my lass was PTS 8 years ago I decided that was enough. I have some health issues and couldn’t face more winter’. Of course there are times I miss that connection but I don’t miss owning or the commitment. I get my horsey fixes on social media of which this forum is my go to place. Love reading all posts and sharing the highs and lows with you all. When we move to Spain later this year there a number of stables where they may like a person to rock up and simply muck out ?

My Mother keeps telling me that I should give up and find 'a nice safe hobby'. Then a few weeks ago I was visiting her and invited my childhood riding instructor to join us for supper - she is 84 and rides her 27 year old horse every day! I told my Mum that when this lady stops riding it will tell me at what age I should stop.
