When to remove fly rug??

Advice please from all you sweet itch specialists out there!!

This is my first year dealing with a horse with the dreaded itch. He has had a fly rug on throughout the summer but I am not sure when it will be safe to leave it off. The midges are not blindingly obvious to me - does the colder weather hearld the end of the little blighters!!!

usually around end of sept/october but depends on weather.better to leave it on too long than take it off and they get all itchy i think!

Mine is off, no signs of flies for the last week or so now. Mine doesnt get sweet itch though, only a few bites.

midges are terrible aatm, need some frosts first.

mine are off too - and fly fringes as no sign of flies or bites in weeks. Although mine have l/w rugs on at night atm
