I think you are supposed to, especially if showing as it makes it look more like a double.

That said, I used to ride in one without a sliphead, and no one ever said anything at shows!

Meant to for shows, or to be strictly correct all the time, but have one on Little Cob and don't have a slip head on it

Thx both, few years since I used one and had a slip head but looking around at a recent show and didn't see any so just wondered

It is a leather strap that you can add to a snaffle bridle to turn it into a double. The slip head attachs to the bradoon/snaffle rings. Your normal cheekpieces then attach to the curb bit. You can use them with a rugby pelham too
