When will my hay be ready ro eat ??

Mine is eating hay now that was cut in June. He has been eating it since July about two weeks after it was cut.
I have never had a problem feeding new hay.
 
Thanks both but my horse has recently had colic and a certain someone on my yard has suggested it's the hay.

It was cut early june he had already munched thriugh 10 bales quite happily but since the colic I have had to give him haylage and it's costing me a fortune.

I understood that you needed to wiat 6 weeks from the hay being baled to being able to feed it ? although a few people have mentioned that it shoudl be more like 3 months ????
 
You dont need to wait to feed new hay, thats a complete falacy. You need to treat it as a 'new' feedstuff and introduce it gradually. I suspect the colic and the new hay arent linked unless he has been stuffing tons down on top of good grass.
