I was driving down a country road today, snow coming down sideways at 4pm so starting to get pretty dark, go through a wooded part and then come across a lady wearing a dark jacket, a dark riding hat, riding a dark horse, with a dark exercise blanket and leading a dark 2nd horse with another dark exercise blanket!!!!! It was a miracle I saw her at all, it was dark enough for me to have my main beam on!!! I felt that irritated, that I pulled along side, did the window down and politely said it would be advisable to be wearing reflectives as I nearly didn't see her. She acknowledged by saying yes... whether she'll heed my advise who knows, but c'mon people use some sense.....
 
Totally agree CD. There are some people who don't think hi viz is the height of fashion, but being smashed up in ICU isn't exactly a good look either.
 
As I've said many times the thing is with these selfish people is that it is the horses who take the brunt of the impact.
 
I was under the impression that if you had no hi viz on the roads, it invalidated your insurance, I go out looking like a christmas tree, and even have a flashing arm band, I might look daft, but boy, can people see me!!
 
Isn't it a bit insane just to be riding down a dark and snowy country road anyway? Surely you would stick to the fields or at least wait untill its light (and even then you should be wearing hi viz).
Unfortunately some people dont learn untill its too late :(
 
I always wear a flourescent vest whenever im on the road, people will never learn ............. until one day they get injured then they will regret not wearing it.

Its the horse I feel sorry for, as they take the brunt of an impact, they have no say in what the rider wears..
 
No one is my yard has ridden since the snow began, simpy because we have to use roads to gain access to the bridleways. It drives me crazy that some riders choose not to wear hi-viz.

It also annoys me that some joggers and cyclists seem not to bother either, especially considering that our yard is through windy village roads that have paths to avoid the need for them to be on the road in the first place...!
 
Summer or winter we never leave out yard with out Hi Viz on as when it's a bright hot summers day it can be as hard for drivers to see you as on a dark dingy winters one, I have a bay mare so she doesn't stand out very well and have a big squishy warm road/builders jacket that is so yellow (kept clean and well washed) that I can be seen for miles away. May not be very fashionable but we are still alive after 10 years riding on the roads and no accidents, the only danger is I may blind some one as we are sooooo bright? lol
