when your looking to buy how far away do you look?

Up to an hour and a halfs drive away so about 60miles, I would be looking much father afield if I was looking at more expensive horses, I have a budget of £1200 haven't actaully started looking but thats the plan

Having travelled the breadth (literally, along the M62 corridor) of the country to look at horses suitable for a novice rugby playing OH to be shown animals that were no where near as described "too small? well we had the blacksmith on him last week" only to find the perfect mare within easy hacking distance of home, we now try not to go very far.
2 of the last 4 horses we have bought have been within 30 mins travelling time and the other 2 were within an hour but we have looked at adverts very carefully and made loads of detailed phonecalls before setting off.

50 miles/2 hours as a rough guide. But I do buy for "potential" and I am prepared to sell if I find it doesn't match up to what I wanted, so it's easier to find something that suits than if it has to match a tight specification.

I went from Manchester to Devon, Cambridge, yorkshire, south wales and then ended up buying one 10 miles away! All I learnt was that it was definitely worth asking to see a video if I was going to travel more than an hour and half away.

I don't look at listings out of the Province, but, as Ontario is 7 times the area of England it would have to be a really good horse.
Furthest I have collected horses from is about 500 miles away.

i'm same as muddy_grey i bought Vinnie from camarthenshire wales i'm in the north east of scotland aberdeenshire he was worth it

I have looked as far as a five hour drive away before, I think I would limit it to a couple of hours if I were to horse shop again as I wasted weeks on end travelling all over to see unsuitable horses.

Our most local was two miles. We have often bought from over 300 miles though.(each way!)

I'm near Chesterfield, derbys.....
First boy was from Kent

It really depends on what you want/need. If you are an experienced rider and can deal with slightly 'more horse' then its worth travelling. However if your specific in what you want I would limit it to 1-2 hours max

I found that they are never as described and if you are specific its not worth the travelling, no matter how many questions you ask!!

Oddly enough I very nearly just couldn't be bothered to go and see the one I eventually bought. I had been messed around and lied to enough and it was just outside the area I had set myself but my friend was bored and wanted to go, Obviously so glad I did now
