Where is the best place to look? I have been through the mags, internet, tack shop boards. When I wasn't looking I used to see loads of these adverts, now I need a companion I can't find any!!
Isn't that always the way!

I offered a horse on loan with expenses paid (trimming, worming, insurance and hay and hard feed if required) as a companion and got zero response!

As others have said try a local charity.

If you're in my area I know of a couple of equines looking for companion homes.

Also try preloved and ask in your local tack shop.

I think the two main issues are that most companions are natives types that often need restricted grazing and the majority of people searching for companions have competition horses that are generally allowed more access to grass than natives.

Many horses don't like staying out on their own which is what most people want a companion to be able to do so you then need a companion for your companion :D

I don't know where you are but the Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies (www.swhp.co.uk) is a very worthwhile rescue charity - they, in particular, always seem to have young ponies looking for companion homes before they go back to be backed and rehomed. They of course, would need restricted grazing.

I had a horse I wanted to loan out last year as a companion - he's perfect in that he'll live out all year round, doesn't need restricted grazing, and doesn't care if his friend goes off for the day. I thought he'd also be fab for a stud, keeping youngsters in order, but I had no takers.

Poops, where are you? I have just heard today of a lovely 15.1 mare that i know, who is now needing rehoming, In foal to a really nice rose grey arab stallion, shes warmblood type... black and was in full work until her owner fell pregnant. She was offered to me today, unfortunately I dont want another, I want to focus on just my boy for now, shes in cornwall. she is 14, lives out as much as possible because she can get a bit stiff, but will stable well, had a hard life before my friend had her, so would love it a bit easier.
