All you hear about is how many horses and ponies need homes, rescue centres are full to bursting etc etc, but can a friend find a companion pony? Can she eckers like!

The requirement is for something relatively sane and sensible who is easy to handle. Unfortunatley no colts or stallions, and no ****lands either. Must be able to live out, although field shelters are available and stabling too at a push. Preferably a native type.

Age, looks and breed are immaterial and a good home is assured.

So why can't she find anything?

Have they actually looked at resuce sites?? Have a look on the RSPCA and Blue Cross websites, they seem to have a fair few.

I don't know whereabouts your friend is but around here there are several rescue centres that always have companions for loan. Failing that, I am constantly seeing people selling their old or unrideable horses for very cheap and many of them would make ideal companions.
Keep looking and you will definitely find something!

I have a pure old fashioned stamp (built like an outhouse) dartie mare that has been a broodie and a LR pony, wintered out all her life, loves fuss and cuddles. She had been on loan since my daughter outgrew her and now they have been given a 13.2 PC pony. I need to find her a home again as we already have a yard full and she thrives on attention, but there are so many kids ponies for loan/sale at present.

I'm sure that Blue Cross will re-home quite a distance away from their farms. I enquired once and they were happy to rehome in Norfolk

a lot of charitys wont loan out over a certian distance from one of thier sites so they can spot visit. freinds have the same issue up in the top end of Scotland, they ended up coming down to visit family & going home with a meat pony from Market (costing £30!).

Thank you for all the suggestions, I will print the thread off and give it to my friend.

Rescue's are difficult due to the distance, I believe she has tried one or two, but they wanted to rehome a little closer to where they were.

I will reply to pm's later, off to ride mine before it starts to rain :)
