Fed up of muppets already. Had 3 people to view my horse so far,

1, Was nice enough, but couldnt get her leg on because he felt too different to her horse... who is a Show Cob?!!? WTF?! Does mine LOOK like he will ride like a show cob?!

2, Very novicey. Didnt even ask to see him trotted up, tried to get him to canter in rising trot, wanted to know what the 5 stage vetting I had had done 4yrs ago showed up??! Also couldnt ride a corner to a fence as she wasnt looking at her fence, and then wandered why he dropped to trot cos she was zigzagging everywhere into it

3, After telling me she wanted something to do eveyrthing on, then decided when she got to see him she didnt do jumping and just wanted a dressage horse. Yes he was being lazy, but this wasnt helped by her sawing his head off with her legs off and then declaring him "too green". A girl on the yard almost pulled her off him at that stage

I’m here (and kind of normal), still working on the money (sure you don’t want a cob and a Fjord?)! Told you if I win the lottery I’ll be straight up with the horse box!

I really don't envy you, I always thought it was a urban myth re. selling horses, and thought I would get a lovely perfect person come and sit on him and buy himthere and then

Oh goodness. The person who sold her said that they had people coming to view horses for competition SJ only to fall off when jumping cross poles :-/

Why are you selling your gorgeous horse if you don't mind me asking - I always enjoy looking at pics of you two. (obviously that is not quite enough reason to not sell though...)

I hope I would be a better rider than what you have mentioned above if I were looking... but don't know as might be so nervous on the day. Seriously, I would be nervous riding a horse with the current owner watching... in fact, I am glad I never had to ride my horse - she was unbacked - in front of half the stud farm that were used to international riders!!!

You should get a good rider at some point though... really like your horse from the pics!!! If only I had a trust fund...

No. 1 - don't like show cobs myself... prefer the sportier ones, but she probably thought she could turn your horse into one!!!

No. 2 - where do you find these people??? No one I have ever ridden with (even those that learned at a later age) has behaved like that before.

No. 3 - hmmmm.... someone doesn't read the adverts correctly.

Have you filtered them through phone/email? Might help you to not waste your time at the yard. Just ask what horse they are looking for, their experience, etc. and see whether it matches with your expectation. People who won't match will easily be found this way.

)! But I did try and help without being bossy (I think!) and their reaction was just to wander off to the other end of the school!!

No helping some people... the worrying is these people did sound ok... although have to admit I did have doubts re. 2 and 3, and credit where credits due, 1 was sweet enough to ring me back and was very prompt in turning up
smile.gif

Oh, and this isnt counting the 2 who just didnt bother to turn up!!

I think the answer is that all the 'normal' people have got the hell out of horses - because the horse world just ain't what it should or used to be.

Ha, ha welcome to the joys of selling horses. Its nearly as bad as trying to buy a semi decent one. Nightmare isnt it. You will get better & better at vetting them over the phone. Sometimes just 1 statement will give them away as timewasters/novices etc.

Dont be put off though, it early days & you WILL find the right person. You live in a lovely central location & are offering an honest, genuine horse for the right person at the right level. Dont hang around too long internet advertising, get him in H&H before we get too far into summer. A nice photo will get you loads of phone calls (unless this credit crunch thing is worse than i think) You can then afford to be fussy with who you allow to come & view.

Good Luck x

Thanks Joss. I have had TONNES of phone calls, so dont think the credit crunch is that bad... have a couple of lovely sounding people interested, so fingers crossed. If he isnt sold next week he will go in H&H. Thanks for the vote of confidence though

its horrible isn't it. i had one lady come to see mine who (despite fact she'd already watched a 30 minute DVD of him) said that "his bottom isn't round enough and he doesn't have enough muscle under his neck"- WTF!!!
the eventual buyer was a complete fruitcake and i must have spent hours on the phone to her but she did cough the money up and horsey went to a great home where he'll be wasted but happy

Oh dear...I must admit I hate trying out horses as I have such low self esteem about my riding although my instructor gave me a kick up the arse about that this weekend! I think your horse is fab and I'm sure you'll find him a great home when the muppets stop turning....if I had 3 grand more and was a bit better rider I might be tempted but I'm sure he's destined for greater things than clear rounds and prelims! Think you should work on Jobo (then I can steal Bodey

Lol KatB - that's exactly what's happening with my youngster.... she's got an injury and can't be ridden at the moment, and OH did ask the other day whether all she's good for is looking all pretty and being spoilt rotten!

Oh I totally sympathise!! We had someone come and try all the babies, several of whom have only just started jumping, and I was absolutely cringing at the cack handed, heavy riding, not to mention the HUGE fences. I couldn't watch. AND I get sooo cross when they say Crotch Stomper (not his real name, but an accurate description of his behaviour, latterly!
tongue.gif
) 'won't stop/turn/go forwards' etc. Ummmm... he will if you RIDE him PROPERLY

I'm sure you'll find a fab home for G with no trouble, he is soo lovely. I'm still kicking myself that I bought my new horse 2 days before you advertised him, he is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. Although actually don't think I would have been up to your scrutiny and no doubt would have been classed as one of the muppets you're having a go at!

Well, if i could convince daddy into the money, i'd be knocking down your front door
tongue.gif

But at least you haven't had as bad at what i had. I recently sold my ex-racer, for a reasonable price, explaining he was a bit nappy and didnt hack out alone.

One person arrived and told me he was so much bigger than she was expecting and didn't think he'd fit in her trailer! (i told her hes a straight up 16.1hh, and hes a small one at that!)

Another lady wanted him for her novicey 13 year old child.. Novice + Nappy horse = Great plan! But got in contact with my DC, and then rung me back to say, you never explained he didn't hack out alone (was even stated in advert!).

I also got a call to ask what level BE he was at?! Nothing for just over 2k!

But...then a lady did arrive, who absolutely fell in love with him, rode him for what he was, and did so well, and just wanted him no matter what!
So, if i can sell a pretty rubbish horse, im sure you'll easily manage to sell your stunning one

This is exactley why I am putting off selling my lovley 17hands DWB that i still havnt really 'clicked' with and ive had him almost a year and a half........
I keep hoping that i will have a lightbulb moment one day and he will become the perfect horse for me as on paper he is the ideal horse.

Sorry hijacked your thread there lol
\you think selling is bad - wait till you are looking for his replacment lol

Aah Kat as others have said, welcome to the world of horse selling! This is exactly the reason I sent mine to pro yard to be sold, far less hassle and stress for me. Yes it costs but my god it was worth it and horse went to a fab home.
