Where are the sharers of the world!?

I've been trying for ages and ages to find some help with my horses. Have two and daughters pony all of which dislike going out alone!
makes for a difficult winter approaching. I thought it would be fairly easy to find someone wanting to ride but couldn't have been more wrong!
Any ideas? I cant lunge or ride in the field as its just getting too churned all ready. One is very good to lead off but I've never led the two others and imagine they would be tricky! ( I used to lead my old horse and friends off him so know he's 100%)
Any good places to advertise? Anyone else in the same boat? What are you going to do about it?!
 
Well I'm a sharer so we do exist!

I guess it all depends on what you are offering - is there a school at your yard? With winter approaching hacking is more difficult, and most sharers tend to work during the day so if there is no floodlit school at your yard that may put some people off. I know it would certainly put me off as I dont leave work until about 5.45/6 most nights! What price are you asking for the share? Do you have transport? What would the sharer be allowed (and not allowed) to do on the horse? Could they compete? How many days per week are you offering? How old are the horses? Would you want the sharer to do any chores?

I know that is a lot of questions but as a sharer you need to know that you have good facilities to ride, a horse that is in good health who could (ideally) do anything you want - jump, hack, dressage etc. You also want a fair price, and if they want to compete then transport is a huge bonus.

I found my share on equine adverts, but Preloved is also very good. I would say those are the 2 main sites you need to be on to find a share. Also try advertising in local tack shops, see if any local riding schools will let you put a sign up (I came from a riding school into sharing so many people will be thinking about moving onto the next step with horses but cant afford their own, so sharing is perfect), local newsagents etc.

Make your advert as detailed as possible, give a detailed overview of each horse, what the price is (per week or month), any extra costs, what the yard is like etc. The more information the better! And then you do have to be patient, it can take a while for a good sharer to come along. Alternatively you can advertise for a 'rider wanted' if all you want is someone to ride the horse rather than joining in with any chores etc.
 
I'm a sharer! Its not too bad at the moment as I go during the day but our setup is much like the one you describe and tbh I've spoken to my owner that if my situation changes workwise it'd be impossible for me to get there (I live 90 minutes/2 hours away)

Our spare field is trashed so I'm trying to spare it, I can't hack out as there's some busy unlit roads leaving the yards so I've no idea what'd happen.

Im a sharer ;) It also probably depends on the amount of money your asking for because not a lot of people would want to pay ££ to ride in the dark/rain/cold. I've got one share which I pay £10 a day for where I go up at about 2pm and yard has floodlit school so no worries there.
Going to meet a women on friday who needs help with horses through winter- she just has a field to ride in and no stables. Im most likely going to be helping her out 2 days a week (riding and poo picking) but only for winter as she can get a sharer in summer
 
I found mine on Equine Adverts too. We don't have a school either, so its mainly riding at weekends for them now. I had a couple that were put off by that, but to be honest they were "what can I get from this" types rather than ones that think about the whole picture, and not people that would have lasted.. I don't charge anything, I just needed help exercising the horses. The two sharers that I do have are great, and we get on well as people. I often work weekends, so they can ride most weekends both days. Even if I'm home and my stepson is here too at the weekend, I still make sure they get to ride. They are both the type to grab a fork and skip/muck out without even being asked. They're both honest and I trust them.

It took a while to find them, a couple of months in fact, but the good ones are worth the wait. Anyone who comes along in winter is usually a keeper, rather than a fairweather rider..
 
I'm a sharer! :)

I love the girls like they're my own and I don't mind at all going down and starting the jobs whilst their owner is still at work.

I'm lucky enough that I've been sharing with the same lady for 12 years now and I no longer pay a standard amount per week - I just buy feed when I can and pay the vet/dentist/farrier when I can get in there first! ;)

There's sharers out there somewhere - I found 'my owner' via word of mouth. Try advertising on livery yards etc where you can, people might know friends who are looking for something.

I imagine that sharers are thin on the ground. The reason I say this is that I replied to the only three adverts I found on preloved and equine adverts close to me (and not a child's pony) yesterday. I have had three emails back biting my hand off to share their horses today.

2 of the adverts were old (1 was 2 months old and 1 was 3 months old).

So hopefully I have a choice. The one that's most appealing is a mare owned by a woman looking to ride out with on her other horse, with indoor and outdoor schools, a walker and a lift to competitions for the right sharer, weekends or weekday and all for £20 a week.

Hopefully I can get to try the mate this week!!

I have put detail on the adverts. Hes a nice horse but is a little springy at times so need a experienced rider but he is safe, good in traffic etc.
Money wise im really not that bothered. The farrier is my main worry so half towards his shoes £30 every 7 weeks would do! More would of course be fab but ive said half shoes then a bag of feed or what ever now and again would be appriciated.
I have no school but have use of one that we could hack to on weekends or evenings in summer for free.
Im happy for them to do what ever they like in the way of shows, fun rides but probably not hunting (not sure on that one but dont think it would suit him)

Hes already on Preloved and Equine Adverts and im getting a bit desperate as ive not ridden him once since saturday and the clocks only changed then!
 
I'm in the same boat, I have a lovely mare that's a great hack and is a good dressage schoolmaster to elementary level. On part livery with full use of facilities and I'm not bothered about money, just want someone to enjoy her and exercise 3 days a week.
Tried Equine adverts already :(
 
I'm actually someone on the other side of it. I've just moved to South East Oxfordshire and looking to do a share during the week (I travel back to my family home in Scotland most weekends to ride my family's) and I don't even know where to begin looking.

I've been riding and owned horses since I was a little'un (around 22 years) and comfortable with most things riding-wise. I'm looking for the day to day of hacking, lunging, schooling, mucking out and the such for one to two days a week (mornings and evenings). I've only just begun looking and have decided to take some riding lessons to find out more about the area and such.

Really I just wanted to say thanks for posting this, because I had no idea how to go about it from my end and this post has been really useful :)

Ah, Your just about an hour slightly more away :-(
Also i cant do morning and would really prefer to be able to hack with them first, what a shame.
Put adverts in Equine Adverts and Preloved- sounds like your in a better position being the sharer than the owner?!

I'm still looking for something again in nottingham, not desperately looking but if something came up would consider sharing again :)
 
I'm looking for a child's first ridden. We can ride during the day but as my child is only 8 I'm looking for a novice ride. You'd have thought we could find a pony to ride as we don't need a floodlit school and it is now a time of year when it's harder for other children to ride during the week. The only one we found seemed to enjoy the odd buck or two so wasn't the first ridden described. I think whether you're the owner or sharer finding a good match isn't easy.
