I'm looking for a part time groom for my livery/training yard, and wondered if anyone can help by recommending where best to advertise! I've tried Facebook, and have only got responses from unsuitable candidates. I thought yard and groom but not sure if this is worth the £75 to register? Has anyone else had a good response from it? Bearing in mind I'm only looking for someone to do a few hours a day Mon-Fri.
I also thought about targeting students - we're near Kent University and Canterbury Christchurch college, but not sure how to go about this.

word of mouth is best, speak to your farrier they know who is planning on leaving which yard as a general rule-or target mums who's kids have gone back to school. advertise in post offices/petrol stations and local shops

Gumtree might be worth a try or preloved - I'm sure you will get some unsuitable candidates on here but lots of genuine people will be looking on there as well, speaking from personal experience.

Have you tried nags and nannies? Its a company designed for grooms and home helps. You obv dont have to have the home help but its worth a phone call.

I find all my grooms through word of mouth .
A mum would what I would target in your position and fit the hours around the children.

Thanks everyone - I will try these routes. I've found in the past that mums haven't been ideal as they can't do early mornings due to kids going to school, then in the summer when we're at our busiest they have their kids back for the holidays! Plus are usually more expensive than students/school leavers.

The thing is people working through choice part time do so for a reason.
The reason I have been sucessful in getting really really good part time people is that I offer a great deal of flexibility and therefore I am able to attract people who would finding working in the industry very difficult otherwise .
I also offer a very good rate of day for the area .
Part time work often means the person has a lot more to their life than the job and you have to accept and work round that to get and retain the best people.
In the last month two people have asked me to consider them if I am looking for someone so there's people around looking for this sort of work.

We can offer quite a lot of flexibility on hours and days, but all the mums who have applied don't seem to be able to start until after 9, which just doesn't work with turning horses out. Maybe one with older children would be better. I'm hopeful for another student - we had one last year who was great and kept her horse with us in part payment, and recently have had a young event rider helping out who is unfortunately going off to uni!

I have found various part time grooms through Yard & Groom, I got lots of replies too I found it was worth the cost. However, i found my current wonder groom through word of month and facebook...which was free!

I'm in a similar area and our first head girl was via yard and groom and stayed for 5 years.
We also had success with the pony club and one of our partimers fits in us around her Uni dates. We did lose her for 10 months while she went travelling though ;)
Had a couple of recent disasters from Facebook and adverts on our website. People who don't want to do any work and take lots of time off! PM in case they come your way!
In general I've found good people are good are rare, and rubbish people are rubbish sadly you have to sift through the crap!
Good luck
