I'm after another border collie :) I have one already and my partner has his dogs. I'm a bit wary about getting one from a rescue as I have a young baby, so probably looking at one where someone hasn't had the time for the dog? Does anyone know of any? I would love a blue Merle. I am offering a home for life with lots of walks, stimulation etc and am experienced with the breed. I am in Warwickshire but happy to travel.

I'm a bit confused - a dog from a reputable rescue will have been behaviourally assessed in a variety of situations and may well come with a full history. A dog coming from Joe Bloggs who hasn't had time for the dog may well come to you with a pack of lies about their behaviour and history in order to shift it, plus is unlikely to have received anywhere near as much training or input (by their own admission, they had no time for the dog!).

If I wanted an adult collie my first port of call would be Wiccaweys.

I'd second wiccaweys. Our dog was from them and they were very honest about him. They also matched a dog to us (after we'd described our circumstances), rather than us choose one we liked the look of. I wouldn't hesitate to recomend them :)

I have had eight border collies over the years all from different rescue societies, and I would recommend the Border Collie Trust at Colton, Nr Rugeley in Staffordshire.

They take in border collies from other rescue societies and offer a speciaist rehomeing service. I was given a print out of all the kennel information they had on my dog, he was chipped and registered before I left the premises, and they did me a tag as well! They gave me good information from their own assessment of the dog, and offer an advice service as a follow up.

On their site they give information about all the dogs they currenlty have looking for homes, and things like suitable to have with other dogs, need experienced owner etc.

They often have older dogs listed, and I always want to take on more, but current dog needs quiet and time to settle before we expand!

Just one thing to check, one puppy I had was a Blue merle, a lovely little bitch, but she was deaf, and I found out afterwards that this is quite common in the blue collies.
