Where did the road nails go??

My boy is due to be shod tomorrow, however, when he was done las time i had 4 road nails fitted, 2 in each hind shoe. When i picked his feet out last night, i noticed he only has one left. Can they fall out or wear out?

I will ask my farrier tomorrow about it, was just sat at work pondering about where they had got too :rolleyes:
 
I think its just the tips that have gone, there doesn't seem to be a hole where the nail should be. I didn't realise they could come off :confused:
 
I worried the first time i had them because after 4 weeks Kestrals had gone. My farrier said that it is not uncommon for the heads to shear off. Kestral used to slide down hills until the farrier put them on but now she is more balanced they seem to last. BTW I live near dartmoor and its very hilly here.
 
I was worried too, thanks Dappyness, he's having new shoes tomorrow, and will have them fitted again, theyre a god send, although he does seem to take more care these days going down hills, we have a lot of them on our route and its that horrible shiny stuff, and the yard is concrete & slippy too :(
