This is a musing really, after buying 3 more hoof picks today, after buying 3 about 2 weeks ago and now only having 1 left...

Where do they go? Disapear? Self combust? Vanish? Sprout legs and wander off?

Hmmmmm???

Ive tried tethering them, to no avail. Ive tried buying horrible, lurid colours and still they go...... but to where???

Does anyone else have this problem? Or what else goes wondering from your yard?!

Vicki

(can you tell Im bored!!)

At my old yard everything wandered off into mid air. I put my name on everything, but that didn't seem to help... I'm bored too. :D

Mine disappear into my uncles coat pockets. He brings the horses in for me and cleans their feet out. I can never find a hoof pick, but if I ask him, he has pockets full :D :D

Mine all turn up again when I have a good old sort out of the feed/tack room. I now have a chipped old mug they all live in when they're found, so I can tell when its time to have a tidy up again...

'tis the age old question, horsey version of where all the odd socks go! Names did help on mine though and I also got one of the stumpy mushroom brush looking ones so it doesn't look like anyone elses :)

Didn't you know?!

The hoof pick thief.

he wanders around late at night, dressed in silver and black lycra...sneaking onto yards and dutifully removing any hoof picks in sight..

SOMEONE is at any rate :p

Our yard owner was having a rant about them but when I checked her grooming box she had 12!!!!
We put hose pipe attached to cord about 6inches of pipe and that does help.

When I had my old loan horse, it was just me at the yard. I went there with two and didn't buy any when I was there. Last time I looked, I had 6 in my grooming box  and no idea where they came from!

I am on a yard of my own and have no problems from the hoof pick fairy. Mine have a hoof pick each in regular use and I have several spares :)

I buy the slip not ones which have a bit of cord on them and keep them on the end of the bolt to each stable, I can undo / do up the bolt with them there and that way don't lose them due to my own forgetfulness!

Many years ago I was at a riding school where they kept the hoof pick attached to a chunk of wood with a long piece of baler twine, a friend has done similar tying the hoof pick to a bucket she picked feet into.

The YO finds mine when he spreads the muck heap and they come pinging out of the muck spreader.

See I did wonder if some of mine ended up on the muck heap, but these last ones didnt even get used in the stable!!!

I looped mine onto the doors, still gone :( I brought bigger chunkier ones this time to try again!!

I've not had a problem with hoofpicks, but I suspect your hoofpicks are probably with my gloves.

I lose endless pairs of gloves - there's only 3 of us on the yard and I know the others don't take them, I manage to lose them all by myself! I managed to lose one boxing my horse up from a hack the other day - I looked everywhere, in the rain, and eventually found it when I got back in the straw under my horse. Then I put both the gloves from that pair "somewhere" and haven't seen them since...

The other place I have kept hoof picks in the past is behind my water buckets which are in the corner as I could get my hand down the gap to get it out no problem :)

DON'T BE SO STUPID!! :mad::mad::mad:

It's actually the hoof pick fairy. They steal them and trade the metal bits with the tooth fairy. The tooth fairy melts them into coins...;):):D:rolleyes:

I have had the same hoof pick for about 10 years!!!!.....but I am on my own so I just hang it up with a piece of string next to where I tie up so its always there. I would get very paranoid if they kept disappearing, one reason I left DIY yards, Can't stand my stuff being 'borrowed'!!

I have this problem with mane combs.. and hoof oil brushes! I find my hoof picks after the winter when the mud has gone away and they appear from the mud in the fields!
