i bought a very wel known (expensive as well) turnout rug, lightweight that i have now used for my second year...i use it for summer showers/autumn/spring.... however i put millie out in it yesterday and when i went to gget her in from the field she was absolutely soaked and shivering.

now i havent had it for very long...and its not had that much use do i have any rights to complain to the company as its really not serving its purpose at all

Personally, my rugs get cleaned and reproofed at the end of each season, so I have no experience of using a rug 2 years running without having it reproofed and I would have thought that realistically you are out of time for making a complaint. I assume it was fine last year?

In the description of the product did it say "waterproof"? If not, then you wouldn't be entitled to complain, if it did though then you would be allowed to

I don't know about your rights - but it is definitely worth complaining! Worst case, nothing happens, best case could be a replacement or similar.

im pretty sure it did say waterprrof as the one i bought before was useless so couble checked this year...i shall go and have a look now...

yes it was fine and i have had it washed and reproofed!!

The only problem here is, the manufacturer may say that this could have an effect on the rug; obviously you have had it reproofed but they could say that the initial cleaning may have damaged it;

Would be worth a try though, maybe write them a letter???

In that case your complaint is with the person that reproofed it, not the original supplier as it is not in the same condition (re chemical reproofing) as when you purchased it and they have no liability for work done subsequent to purchase

If it was ok last season, wouldn't you have more of a case complaining to whoever 're-proofed' it? Or if you did it yourself, complain to the company who made the re-proofer?!

ahh b**ger iv now realised im kinda stuck either way...problem is mum swears it has been reproofed..im sure it wasnt ...but it was done a while ago so no records..unless the shop we sent them to did.

however its has been washed so therefore yes it could have changed the rug.....fighting a lost battle really arent i....thing is every other rug i have had done is fine and they were in fact just as good a brand names.....maybe i shall have to stick to buying some reproofer and doing it myself.

i have just looked at the website and it says in the "how to care for " part that they can be machine washed as long as a proper rug wash is used....which it would have been!

But you said yourself it was fine last year. The only thing that has changed apart from age is that it has been washed and you don't know for certain that it was re-proofed. I'd be talking to the people that washed and re-proofed it myself.

yes i think you are right tbh...but we do it through our local tack shop and it would have been done in the winter so im not sure if they have records still.....i think i will just have to reproof it myself there are too many things they could say have affected it......never mind!

Think you will just have to pay for it to be washed and reproofed again. I had all my rugs done last year, and one of them came back looking like it hadn't been reproofed as the water just soaked in.

Don't think the tack shop owner believed me as we went through the palava of having to dunk it in a bucket of water. In the end she sent it off for another reproof.

Can't see you'd get away with that after having had it done a while ago, though it's worth a try.
