Where do novices compete near Moor Monkton? Is there a local RC?

Hi all,

I just moved to Red House Estate in Moor Monkton. It is lovely.
I am looking forward to the clear round show jumping and XC open days from May onwards but was wondering if there is anywhere else nearby (within 30 min trailer journey) that does competitions or open days that a beginner could attend?

I would like to do intro dressage in a relaxed environment and XC schooling or fun SJ over no bigger than 60cm jumps.
It would just be nice to be able to go somewhere and do stuff in a new place...but in minature!

I used to be close to Selby Riding Club and I miss them so much as they are so welcoming!

Any thoughts welcome.

There's a nice cross country course at Thornton Lodge Farm near Easingwold. A minimus and novice course that even I managed to get over, (well apart from the water but that's a different story). Turn up when you want and go round.

Rainbow shows do some nice small SJ events at Askham Bryan sometimes.

Jodhpurs Riding School Tockwith does a dressage and SJ series with smaller classes although I've not actually been but I think it will be pretty friendly.

York & district riding club does intro dressage and teeny jumping at some shows - the website is ydrc.co.uk. We're a very friendly and encouraging bunch! Winter events might be a bit far for you but it's worth a look.

Hi, I used to live at Nun Monkton - lovely area - lucky you!
For fun competitions there's Penine View at YRC Markington, Brimham RC also compete there.
York Riding club's field is near Haxby/Shipton by Beningbrough.
Further afield but worth the trip - try NorthAllerton minimus/fundays .... I'm taking my 4yr old there for xc later this season - will prob have to do 60cm as she can walk over 40cm ... but no adult would look out of place doing a 40cm.
Welcome to the area! I can honestly say I haven't found any show/event up here anything but friendly!
