Where do people pluck these prices from???

Just flicking through a Free Ads paper (picked up in the chip shop

) and someone is advertising a coloured mare, 15.3, 14 years old, who cannot compete/do RC or PC activities due to leg injury, 'would make light hack / companion horse / broodmare.' The price?

£1,750

Now, she sounds a sweet mare and all, but with that many issues regarding her ability to be ridden, they should be practically giving her away.

If she is worth that money, then the inexperienced youngsters that people have been asking about on here would fetch £8K

I agree - people think they're horses are way more than they're worth. We bought a pony a couple of years ago for £1800 and now it's outgrown we're trying to sell it (complete with all its tack & wardrobe) for£2500 but no takers. I didn't think that was expensive for a decent pony but am going to have to drop the price and see if that does the trick.

well i just phoned up about a little filly to make 14`2`` (the ad had no price on),from the pic i thought it would have been around 500.00 and guess what?
they want 6,000!!!!!!!!!

LOL - there are some truly delusional folk out there.... Someone tried to sell me a toast rack (sorry, broodmare) today, thinks it might be in foal for next year, 15 yrs old for £2000 today.....

I no what you mean i saw a yearling new forest, nicely bred admittadly but still just a yearling Nf who was handled but hadnt been shown etc, they wanted £1400, dream on!

On the other hand some horses are very resonabley priced! All of mine were!
14hh 13yo NF, needs a little work- £900
yearling NF, quiet and easy, sire forest bred champion- £200
14.2hh cob x haffy, green but quiet and sane, 12yo- £850
Unreg exmoor stallion, 4yo, needs work, nott broke- £200

we sold our royal welsh mare for £4200 which was reasonable as she had the results to prove she was good, but the people who bought her also bought like 5 others all over £4000!! and guess what...they bought a section C broad mare (12yo!!!!!!!!) in foal to a good section D stallion for....£11000!

and guess what?...they scanned it later when they took her back and she was EMPTY!!!!!!

what a waste of money!!..still they were gifted to have a nice section D royal welsh winner with them instead not ours...promisehehe

Seems a bit steep for something which doesn't sound like it is registered or has proven itself.

When I was looking for a broodmare with a half-decent pedigree to buy for my stallion, most of them were around 10K. I ended up buying a beautiful, well trained, riding AND proven broodmare for him, and ended up spending quite a bit less. It was just the luck of the draw though, right place, right time and knowing the right contacts.
