Don't want to be seen as advertising, but where does everyone look when buying horses?

Sadly going to have to sell my fabulous little tb mare soon, She practically is anything but typical tb-like! But other than the obvious H&H, where do you all look when buying horses? Any particular sites you check on? Is preloved worth doing? Horsemart? Horsequest?

Thanks in advance :)

For a nice horse, the allrounder type I look on the PC site and Horsequest, they both have quality types and get plenty of views, when selling I rarely use any others now and find the PC probably the best if the horse or pony would suit that market.

If I'm looking for a riding horse, I'm more likely to buy one that's advertised on the website of a respected pro or trainer. That way I'll know that they've had a few weeks decent schooling to knock the rough edges off.

If you're into showing or competing post an advert at the show centre, along with what classes you're in so that people can see her at the present moment, rather than rely on possibly old or outdated pictures/videos.

I'm not in the UK so I don't know what sites to recommend, it depends on your budget really. In the US there are websites that are distinctly less 'classy', (i.e. craigslist) and I'd be far less inclined to buy a horse from one of those, especially if you're asking a decent price.

I would look on H&H, Horsemart and PC website, ask my farrier and saddler and look on the boards in my tack and feed shops. You could try preloved and adtrader (free so worth a try) - depends on the sort price range your horse will be in and what sort of person you would be aiming her at.

I am looking ATM and put a wanted ad on a face group page. All things Horsey Norfolk Group. Got some good responses and am looking at 3 This weekend.

Good luck

Horsequest.

I also look on Horsemart, Adhorse an H&H but I like Horsequest best and I can save the ones I like the look of in my "virtual stable".

Personally I would always look to a local source, i.e. ask around friends/acquaintances/instructors etc., and then look around local feed merchants/tack shops etc. Our hunt sends around an e-mail circular and quite often there are horses there for sale or loan etc., so the local hunt (or Pony Club?) would be a good source. Its always said in the country that there's more business done on a morning's cubbing than anywhere else!!!

If still not finding anything after that, I'd then maybe ask around for a good reputable dealer and/or agent and (take the risk of) placing myself in their hands. I used an agent to sell a horse once and TBH it was the best thing I ever did and she found him a lovely home (didn't cost me a fortune either). But I did have to pay her for taking him to her place for selling livery, but worth it IMO.

Good luck with yours.

Having just bought a new horse (well i collect him on saturday... CANNOT come soon enough) I tried horsemart, horsequest, H&H, Horse deals, equine adverts and Horse & Rider - I did have a look at preloved, but to be honest I hate the search functions on preloved when it comes to horses... however, the one i ended up buying was via a friend of a friend, he wasnt properly advertised anywhere else... so would definitely recommend putting the word out, speak to your local feed merchant etc.

I look on horsemart, horsequest, PCUK when I remember, preloved just because there always seem to be new ones I haven't seen before, and adhorse because its free so gets people who don't want to pay for an ad and worth a look, also local facebook groups are always worth advertising on - I think its more likely I would find one on there these days as I hate travelling long distances to look at a horse for half an hour unless it is really special! I also look on breed society websites for haflingers because I want one so bad but I don't know if there is one of those for TBs :-)
