Where do you start in the search for a Whippet?

Hi, if my questions are answered already on another post, please point me in that direction! But I am (along with the rest of the world it seems) looking for a whippet. I consider myself a complete convert. And whippets seem to come up for discussion a lot here, so I figured you were the people to ask!

Although I've always had dogs, I'm 24 now, so the finding, selecting and arranging of the necessary details has never been done by me before.

So... where is the best place to look for puppies? I see there are loads on t'internet, but I'm guessing that is possibly not the best place to look. Word of mouth is often better I suspect? Or maybe there is some H&H doggie equivalent?

Also, I notice a lot of puppies are rather on the expensive side. Are the costly ones bred for the showing world, or is it just the way the market is, what with them being so popular? I have no interest in showing, although I've always really enjoyed doing obedience and the like in the past with dogs we've had.

I'm really sorry if I seem incredibly dim... it happens a lot, just tell me straight, I'm used to it!

whippet forum
'penbriar' whippet..5dogs,4 bitches showbred
i'll pm her tel number in the whippet magazine
also try working whippet forum..theres some working bred pups on there
if you want a whippet just for a pet i would go for a showbred as the working/coursing bred 'can' be more hyper
i know of a bitch just in pup, pups due about 6wks
kc whippet pup are going for £300-£500 but un-reg will cost less...imo i wouldnt pay the top wac for a pup
good luck..or you could try getting a rescue one

As others have said, the H&H often has whippet pups for sale. You can also look at the Kennel Club website, it shows lists of puppies for sale. The whole point of buying a KC registered whippet, is that it will grown up to be a proper whippet, whereas an unregistered puppy may not. It could have all sorts of "other" stuff in there. if you don't want to pay a lot of money, buy a small lurcher, they are often for sale for under £200.
