I posted this on another forum awhile back, but was curious to see your responses as well. I read this year that to make the most out of your hat's longevity, you should store it in a area where the temperature is moderate and consistent. They say to "never store it in a hot car or in the tack room when it's below zero [degrees Fahrenheit]."
I don't know why, but I never really even thought about it...even though the tag said to "store at ambient temperature." I always used to keep mine at home and bring it out each time to ride, but once I got a tack trunk a few years ago, I've left it out at the barn since. Now that it's gotten cold out, and I have a newer helmet, I've brought it home again.
I wonder how detrimental it is to store it outdoors in a trunk, since say during the winter - the temperature swings would be more great if you're taking it from warm to cold and back again on a regular basis, versus it being "cold" all the time. (Not to say that temperature swings don't happen outdoors - as we all know how the weather can change several times in a day!)
Where do you store yours?
