Where do you store your tack when it's not being used?

I've just sold my two horses and have brought all my tack home and need to store it so it doesn't all rot. I've got a massive metal trunk in my outhouse which is dry but I'm worried it's still going to be damp. The other option is the loft but I don't know if that would be any better
So I'm just wondering how other people do it and if there's a way to do it so it doesn't fall apart? It's all been cleaned and oiled and I've been told it should be wrapped in newspaper or something.

I bring my expensive stuff home to prevent them getting damp at the yard.

I have a saddle over the banister and a bridle hanging from a curtain pole!!

I should imagine your loft will be fine :) just rub your leather down and oil it every so often

I keep mine over the bannister on my landing, some in my loft, bridles in the study and tack in regular use seems to live in my car or my YO's car... If I could persuade hubby to build me a heated secure tack room I'd be very happy!

Quick point to mention to all who assume their house contents insurance will cover their tack whilst it's kept securely at home - DONT BE FOOLED. I just assumed anything I owned that was kept by me at home would be covered , ie: my tack and rugs, but it turns out that it isn't. Apparently 'specialist' sports equipment like scuba gear, horse equipment, etc.... has to be mentioned specifically to be covered by a standard household contents policy. If you haven't checked your cover, might be worth calling your insurance company tomorrow and checking. Came as a big shock to me as I've been keeping my tack 'safely' at home for 40+ years, not knowing it wasn't insured.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll have to box it all up and pop it in the loft. It's just a nuiscance as it's not right there  I should think I'd be kicked out if I left all four saddles over the bannister, especially as I already have 5 bridles and two sets of boots in my wardrobe! :)
