Just wondering what the general view on dog sleeping arrangements are?

Having just got Ruby back it turns out that for the last 5 months she's been allowed to sleep on beds. Before she would always sleep in her crate in the kitchen downstairs. This never was a problem and wouldn't hear from all night. I'm now debating what to do, I've never been a fan of having dogs on beds esp bigger ones (she's very good at taking up all the room :D ) so for the last 2 nights I've made her sleep on her own bed still in the bedroom.

Where does everyone's else's dogs sleep?

In the dog room.

It is a 16 x 10 room next to the kitchen and it is basically theirs.

They have a few big beds in there and an outside door to a little courtyard.

Daisy puts herself to bed every night, Boris has to be persuaded as he would prefer to sleep in the front room :)
Don't hear a peep out of them through the night.

Terrier on the bed, retriever on the floor. Occasionally the big lad gets invited onto the bed - e.g. in winter when it's freezing and I want to warm my feet on him! :D

My dog sleeps on the bed, on/pressed up against my feet. He is smal and snuggly and i love having him there. He comes up to the top of the bed on invitation for cuddles.

Boots sleeps on the sofa in the conservatory mostly. He doesn't do stairs as ours are steep and his long legged greyhound body can't be bothered so he doesn't sleep on the bed!

On a dog bed at the foot of our bed. He usually comes onto our bed just before the alarm goes off for cuddles though!

When we have foster dogs staying they usually sleep outside our bedroom door on the landing.

In his crate downstairs in the dining room, always since he was a pup and after the first week from hell i never hear a peep. He is allowed on the bed for extra lie ins etc but not very often and only when invited to do so. I was sick last week and spent the day in bed so he was allowed then to sleep on the bed which he happily did all day.

Dobermann and patterdale in the kitchen, puppy in her crate, jr whenever he feels like usually sofa sometimes our bed and the staffy has claimed the spare room with his own human bed and dinosaur quilt cover :)

In their bed, in the kitchen. When my OH goes to work, he lets them come into the bedroom and we have a cuddle up for half an hour, they come in like commando's dogs. Very quietly.

Suzy sleeps next to my bed on 'her' dog bed, Millie generally sleeps with me in my bed... like a little person... (although if she gets too hot she'll hop off the bed and climb in with Suzy instead.)

here's my little person dog, and yes she sleeps with her head on the pillow and body under the duvet...

Lhasa Apso in my bed-just like a wee living teddy bear and great to cuddle! Rough collie downstairs on the couch! She doesnt like stairs so never comes up!

In his own bed in our bedroom. He only comes onto the bed when he's feeling cold, so at this time of year he's rarely on the hoomin's bed.;)

He does, however, sometimes sneek in and try to hide under the duvet during the day when he thinks I'm not looking .........

...........:eek::cool:
..........but like Hedwards Millie, he does like to sleep with his head supported. I don't have a recent pic of this on this laptop, but this was taken when he was 4/5 months old...........

Gotta love a dog! :D:D

My mum sleeps on the couch downstairs with the dog, he has a couple of biscuits and then climbs up for cuddles then wanders off because he gets too hot. He has blankets on the floor as he isnt a fan of cushions.
I'm currently house/dog sitting for my aunt and her whippet X gets in the double bed. The first night she growled when I got in and spent the night at my feet, but for the past couple of nights has been a bed hog and wakes me up with kisses :)

In his bed in the kitchen at night, creeps up at about 6am & gets on the bed commando style crawl way. Is invited on to the sofa in the evenings. Sleeps on the tiles in the conservatory when its warm. And generally any floor indoor or out. When daughter was little, or if she has friends round he gets in either his bed or his bit of garden (a square of disused flower bed) as they are the two places he can have peace in. Tbh he is more likely to be playing with the kids than wanting to sleep.

Not just on but in our bed for the most part :o

The eldest will get up at first then after a while he'll get down and sleep on the sofa at the end of the bed until morning at which point he gets back up. The other two spend all night in bed, Little Dog usually up against my back and the whippet on my feet.

restless border collie - he starts in office on floor then comes in and sleeps on our bedroom floor then usually goes downstairs by front door for a bit - then possibly on his own bed at top of stairs and by morning he is usually asleep in the hall .......................... NEVER on beds - with the amount of ticks hes had recently along with the mud and whatever else NEVER on the bed haha

D sleeps on the landing outside our room on a big 48" cushion bed, R sleeps on the sofa downstairs ('his' sofa with the hypoallergenic covers and impregnated vetbed to help his allergies). The crate in the living room is used for daytime snoozes only for some reason.

Their choice, they can go wherever they like except on our bed (too big, too hairy).

ETA: Typical daytime positions - R on my feet, D on a carefully arranged pile of cushions. :)

Pretty much wherever they like. Fred chooses to sleep with my eldest daughter . . . on her bed (or in it if it's really cold). Dinks sleeps wherever I happen to be . . . I've been sleeping on the big sofa quite alot lately (to avoid doing stairs with my dodgy pelvis) so she sleeps on the small sofa. When I go up to bed, she sleeps on the bed near my feet.

In the kitchen on furry beds :) I used to let them upstairs but they figget too much and I'm not a good sleeper anyway. They are good; I usually get up around 6am and they are always still fast asleep

In her crate in the utility room. The first two weeks we got her she howled and whined but now she knows that is where she sleeps. She has three day beds, one in the kitchen, one in the lounge and one at work (my work, not hers!). Taking her on holiday for a few days, so will take the crate with us.

If i'm on my own they sleep on the bed. If boyfriend is staying then they have their big duvet on the floor at the end of the bed but are allowed on the bed for cuddles when the alarm goes off :p

During the day they hit the sofa!

In his own bed in our bedroom. He only comes onto the bed when he's feeling cold, so at this time of year he's rarely on the hoomin's bed.;)

Most excellent pictures, NS! :D

Dougal & Katy sleep in furry dog beds in our room. Dougal has his by my side of the bed, and Katy has hers by my husband's side. Not planned that way, it just happened. They both leap into their beds when we retire for the night, eager for their 'bedtime biscuit'. Then they sleep soundly all night, save for the occasional snore. Katy wakes up about 6.30. Dougal reluctantly gets up a lot later (lazy old so and so!)
Luckily neither of them try to get on the bed to sleep. It's a very high Victorian style bed and I don't think Dougal could manage the jump now. Katy could, being a lot younger and bouncier, but she never even tries.

In her bed, under the work top come office desk at the end of the kitchen. She knows her place. She can come into the sitting room in the evenings and watch telly/fall asleep on the floor.... has a habit of inviting herself onto the sofa when guests are around - she thinks its allowed when I'm not watching, they clearly need cuddles and I wouldn't dream of telling her off in front of guests!!!

Firmly forbidden to go on beds... but the kids have invited her once or twice... the kids get told off... the dog does 'stealth retreat' back to her place. :)

On his bed or floor duvet in the front room downstairs. He did spend the first week with access to upstairs to help him settle, but with him snuffling round our door, and galloping round like a horse, me and the OH didn't get my sleep.

I put the ironing board on the sofa to stop hin going on there. Not a fan of dogs on human seats, and I have a small house. Monday was the last straw, he'd stolen a box of cereal from the kitchen (dog walker left the door open :( ) and taken it onto the sofa to eat, spilt cheerios all the way over the sofa, underneath etc, I am militant about him not being on it now the little bugger

In his bed, on the sofa, squished into the chair or on his quilt on the floor in my mums room. He's not allowed in my room anymore as he winds up the rabbit, eats the poor rabbits food and then barks if the cat comes in
