Where has Filtabac gone?

It's been mentioned on another thread, as far as I remember from that thread, there was a recall on some of it because it separated out. Hasn't been seen since.

It was withdrawn iirc because there was a problem with the recipe, for want of a better word, and the paste kept splitting. It came back briefly (I got some at that point) but perhaps this wasn't properly dealt with and it's been withdrawn again.

I do hope Aniwell can get on top of this, filtabac has been my go-to for so many things and I only have one tube left.

Also raised a few months ago: https://forums.horseandhound.co.uk/threads/whats-going-on-with-filtabac.843524/

Would Honeyheel be a suitable alternative until Filtabac is *ahem* Filta-Back? 🤠

Say's on the website it's a pretty effective sunblock, and I can believe it. Reading the descriptions of both, they do seem pretty similar (If not with Honeyheel being more expesnive lol)

I wouldn't use Honeyheel as sunblock, as it is extremely sticky and melts in the sun. For just a block, Nettex do one that works well and you can use it on yourself.

Thank you - from my side I wasn't using it as a sunblock and can find alternatives, just wanted to ask as it was working well for my needs. Hopefully others can find a good replacement too though... frustrating when something is working well and then you can't get hold of it!

I have gone for Biteback sun relief and Biteback Mudbar Plus. Both a very similar consistency to Filtabac. The sun relief has been brilliant on a horse who has UV sensitivity and had dermatitis.

Glad I've got loads in stock. With 3 mealy mouthed greys it's a necessity. Had no idea there was an issue with it so will be parsimonious in applying it.

I've gone for the Biteback sun relief too - good to know it's working for yours. I'm applying it for the photosensitivity but for the past 2 years the scabs haven't appeared until August so I don't know yet if it's doing any good.

Mine had a raging flare up and it calmed it down and didn't even use the steroids I was given by the vet. It's pretty much normal now aided by field socks.

As much as I miss Arch, I'm grateful I only have Wig this summer. I don't think I could have managed summer without Filtabac when Arch was alive. That stuff is brilliant.

Me too. I’ve got nearly a full large tub of Filtabac & using it sparingly. I have been told it’s got something in it that is no longer permitted.

I’ve been using this for sunburn off Amazon -it’s only £5 and works really well!
