When my mare come back from loan a month or so ago I was inundated with interested parties, and found her a perfectly fab home almost immediatly, my housemate is desperatly looking for a loaner for her gelding but has had no real interest at all?

He is such a nice horse, has nothing wrong with him, jumps, hacks, schools etc but she hasn't the time to put to him at the moment.

Is it just totally the wrong time of year?

Also any suggestions as to finding someone/where to take him would be greatly appreciated, she moving at the end of the month and really needs him sorted and settled.

Its like the 'waiting for a bus' syndrome! When I was looking for a horse to loan, I couldn't find anything except other people's problems that they couldn't sell! After a few months of looking I eventually bought Jerry (who I love

and am so glad I was in a position to buy). Then there seemed to be loads of potential loan horses I could have taken on!

I was looking for something like your housemates.
Don't worry - he'll find a loaner, then you'll suddenly find loads of potential homes for him! It's called sod's law.

not sure, i advertised for a share at local tack shop and on my yard and had nothing for weeks, then all of a sudden i had 3 people, one of which is going ahead and we start the share at the end of this month, i am sharing her to this lady for two days a week, just enough to help me out a bit
i am sure something will come up

Where have you/she advertised him?

I think it's the wrong time of year. My loan horse is fab but I don't think I would have taken her (or any horse) on at this time of year - took her on in Sept when there was enough daylight to get to know her before we're resigned to dark nights and mucking out!

The first time my boy went out on loan in August I was inundated with people but the second time there were far less people...I put that down to it being mid Sept, kids having gone back to school so less time to go and look at ponies.

i have found the same as chestnut cob, in past times loaning out ponies its easier earlier in the year but u never kno u might be lucky!!
