lorry? Im currently seeking one. It has to be 3.5tonne so i can drive it on my car licence, preferably under £6k and big enough to carry one or two 16hh horses.
Found mine on e-bay but spent ages on horsemart beforehand - I have an Ifor body on a VW flatbed - if the lorry breaks then I just lift it off and put onto a new one!
A tall 3.5 tone lorry may carry one 16h horse but would be illegally and unsafely overwieght with two.
If you want to take two 16h horses, you need a larger lorry - at leat 3.9 tonne upgrade - whihc need a C test,
or take your trailer test and have a good 4x4 and large trailer.

Hmmm - had heard they were top-heavy and unstable round corners?
I have a Merc Sprinter fitted with an Ifor container for sale if you want to pm me for details. I know what people say about 'top heavy etc but like any box they have to be driven correctly.
Anyway, IMHO most of the 3.5t boxes would be overweight with two 16hh on board. I've also seen plenty of trailer/4x4 combinations that would be overweight too.
I think you've got to ask yourself whether you really want to carry two biggish ned's around at the same time, I always found it nothing but stress to take more than one but if you do then frankly you need a bigger lorry and to take the necessary test.
To carry two neds I would advice a truck between 3.5 and 7.5 ton MAM (maximum autherized mass) You would need to have category C1 on your license. If you haven't got this then, you must be 18 years old and have a full car license, you need to take the same medical as the LGV drivers do which most doctors charge about £80 to £90 for then 3/4 days training before your C1 Test. The test cost £89 then the truck hire, I should stick with the trailer horsebox and 4X4
You have to take a trailer test aswell, which is as expensive as the lorry test, and as OP has said, it does work out cheaper when under 25 to have a lorry and "runaround" car. I have a 3.5ton which weights 3.1 ton with one 16.1hh on, and it is a very lwt build. You will struggle legaly with 2 on.
