It looks very much the sort of small stately home that was demolished in the 1950s and 1960s in huge numbers due to the lack of staff post wars and cost of upkeep with rising oil prices.

Looks very much Victorian in style and to be built of stone, which puts it possibly more in the Cotswolds area - although the wealthy in those days thought nothing of transporting stone halfway across the country should they wish to use it. However, Thynne rebuilt Longleat out of Bath stone and the Devonshires used Derbyshire stone for Chatsworth so it is more likely to have been built of reasonably local product.

Any clues as to area? There are some really good books - coffee table type - which have potted histories and photos of country houses of particular counties by Nicholas Kingsley - I think he does Gloucestershire - which might help if you could get access to a copy?

Hi gang as you probably know it is a hunting photo or one of them, and I have found out it is Thoresby Hall Nottingham. Thanks for the replies. xxxx ;)

Thoresby? Never would have guessed that and i've been round there a few times. It's def. changed (or shows how much of a heathen i am and don't pay any attention to my scenery) ;)

Had a nosey earlier, great photos, really interesting. Love to see all the old photos from back in the day, find them really interesting esp. hunting themed ones.
