i am in a quandry as the little pups are suddenly looking very big and we still have 3 to sell.. we have tried vets, local papers, schools etc in the surrounding area, and the kennel club, without any phone calls at all!.. we are asking for £600 - were told that was how much they are going for, but need to get interest!
any help!?!? thanks ;):D

Have you tried the Your Dog magazine, your local ad mag, tack shop, other shops, livery yards?

I've seen a few ads in Pets @ Home as well :)

If both parents are health tested, and of working lines, you could try the shooting times or similar. A friend of a friend has a litter of 10 fox red and black labs and at 7 weeks has only sold one, they have not been hip scored etc and she is asking £500 which I think is way too much.

if they are working bred maybe you could try' countrymans weekly'
be honest theres alot of labs out there and being advertised cheaper
£600 is quite a lot even if they are KC reg
how old are the remaning pups..if they are older maybe you ought to reduce price
did you keep any of them

hopefully you'l get your bitch speyed

If the parents are not health tested then £60 is too much for any sane person to pay.

Bad timing having puppies ready when people are due to go on holiday and also not good to mate a bitch without some homes lined up.

Can't the stud dog's owner help place them?

Totally agree with this.

Ummm......... "where told that how much they go for"....rather odd, sounds like another ill thought out litter, did u not have interest in the pups/reserves on them before you mated the bitch, and indeed are they health tested (parent dogs) are u offering back up for these pups too for when they need to be returned in a year or 2 if need be? don't usually comment on breeding posts anymore, but when they are rather random and clueless, I do worry for the pups!!

Black labs appear very popular, so I'm surprised they're not selling. Do you have any shooting near you or a shooting shop? Stick an ad in there or talk to the owners. Know any gamekeepers?

Dunno who told you the price, but unless they are seriously well bred working or show lines, all parental tests done, KC registered, then I hate to tell you they ain't worth £600. To be honest, not knowing a price and saying you were told kind of says it all. People are much more clued up about potential health issues with labs (or any other breed) these days and are therefore wary.

I agree over the price. For that sort of money I would want the parents to be hip elbow and eye tested and both to have been in the working field.

I have a bitch here that was from health tested and proven working parents, she is 4 years next week and cost her original owner £450.

thanks for all the help - both parents are hip and elbow scored - bitch scoring 0 and sire was something like 3
both do have clear eyes too and had a full health check before doing it.
we had 3 people lined up and all have backed out last minute by their various good reasons, we know them all as friends etc, so no bad feelings there.. we are not going to breed again, we just wanted to carry on her very good line of working dog, especially as we could find a dog who is a great working field dog too that was a suitable partner - it was planned! thanks again for the help - should have put more detail before!!

Just a bad time of year/recession ..and blacks are the hardest to sell. We only ever had one litter of blacks, mainly dog puppies, and ended up reducing the price down to £250 to sell the last three. The parents were fully tested up,sire was a working "bomb" dog and shooting dog.It is a very hard colour to shift unless you are Drakeshead or equally famous, that is where true shooting people would probably go for.
