Where to advertise saddles?

I have a couple of lovely quality saddles, well known brands and suited to wider types and I have had almost no interest in them.

I feel like I have advertised in all the usual places - local saddle fitters, eBay, Facebook market place and saddle groups. Am I missing anywhere?

Starting to think I will go down the saddle bank type route but a bit gutting to lose out on quite a lot of money!

Is there a local tack shop that sells on used saddles? We have one near me that seem to have a range from awful to pretty nice, not sure what commission they take.

(I might be in the market for a wide saddle... will PM!)

thank you for suggestions! Unfortunately any tack shops we did have round here seem to have disappeared!

If they arent selling then they are too expensive. The saddle bank sells at a large premium as they offer trial facilities. The amount they pay is much closer to market value for a second hand saddle being sold by a person on ebay etc, than the amount they sell for. I've always found they offered me a fair price.

I’ve recently sold a saddle through Saddles Direct and that took 8 months to sell! The feedback I got was they had a lot of saddles to sell so I think the supply is currently outstripping demand. Mine was an XW too.

I sold mine through sheepham saddles. They sold it for more than I would have done privately, so even after their commission I still ended up with what I wanted for the saddle ?
Took a few months, it went on trial twice before selling, but there was no hassle.
Try emailing them for a valuation, you may be pleasantly surprised

thank you will give them a go x

Over recent months I have seen that any saddlery item that are of good quality and therefore a good price doesn't seem to sell. People expect you to virtually give the stuff away. I think it's getting worse now with the cost of living rise people have less disposable cash for these purchases. Good luck, I hope you find buyers

I’ve got 2 to sell as well as I have had to give up horses completely. I have them both on freeads and pre loved and they are good saddles but I’ve had no interest. im not on Facebook so a friend is going to put them on for me but I have a feeling I will have to try saddles direct or similar to just get rid of them. They are on a saddle horse in my bedroom reminding me of what I am missing so the sooner I sort them out the better. One of them is a good make but old so I think I might be stuck with that one but the other one is fairly new and a good make so hopefully one of the saddle sellers might give me a good deal on that one. I did put all my stuff on the regional page on here but had no interest..

Difficult one: I've sold a few saddles I didn't need on e-bay in the past but bear in mind they (+ Paypal) will hammer you for commission, plus you'll have all the faff of packing the darn thing up - it took me half a day last time and this was AFTER having to find a decent-sized box!

You could try Preloved: I did sell an old saddle on there - it was of a particular make that someone wanted and I did agree to package it up and send it off. It'd had been on there just over a year though......... I wasn't inclined to reduce it as it was nearly new and I wasn't going to give the thing away so held out for the price I'd asked for. Was about to take the ad down that very day and then hey presto someone wanted it! So if you want your price you may have to wait on these sort of selling sites.

Have also sold my latest treeless saddle at a local second-hand tack shop. The deal is you pay £20 for her to "list" it which means taking photo's, putting it on her website etc., and then when the saddle sells you pay 20%. You obviously need your asking price to reflect this. And at least you don't get the hassle of having to package the darn thing up and send it off.

What sort of % do these resellers charge? I think I've read 25% but can't find a figure.
20% last time I sold with the saddle bank. It was a specialist saddle and took a while to sell but they do all the work for you. Very good service. They give you a good estimate before you send it off and then when they receive it they confirm the price.

I think it also helps to know exactly what you’re selling. When my saddler has told us to buy a particular size, model, etc, it’s very frustrating trying to work out what you’re looking at on an ad. I bought a saddle off eBay once, drove all the way to Cardiff from Hampshire to collect only to realise as I was taking it away it wasn’t the right model (it was partly my mistake for not asking a specific question). I was lucky to be able to sell it on quickly.

I was very particular when buying them as needed certain models so have all the info directly from the saddle makers. I think the issue is they aren’t cheap saddles and whilst I’m prepared to take a bit of a hit I don’t really want to lose like £300 on each.

I used the saddle bank and was very pleased with their service.
Ok they take their cut, and it's disappointing that I only got just over half of the price I'd paid brand new a year before as it was used on a horse that ended up retired. But I'd been watching a few of the same make and model of saddle struggle to sell on eBay for months and if they did, they went for about 250 less than what I got.
It's very straightforward and said saddle was sold within 5 weeks, which was quite quick I thought as it wasn't a particularly popular model.

I bought one from Sheepham Saddles. They were lovely to deal with and I was prepared to pay a bit more knowing that their was no risk, in that it could go back if it wasn't right.

I did look on Facebook /Ebay but I wouldn't be happy unless it was local enough to view and it also made me nervous in case it wasn't right for any reason.
