My vet has strongly recommended that my horse be put on cimetidine for his melanomas and I have just bought a months worth of treatment from him but I nearly died at the cost - over £100 for one months worth, there is no way I can afford to do that for the rest of his life (he is 17 atm). Does anyone know whether you can buy it cheaper on line and if so where please?

i tried cimetidine on 2 grey horses with melanomas, didnt make a bit of difference. the one horse became extremely fussy with her feed and refused to eat them, the other ate them fine for over 6 months but ia i said no visible change. good luck you could ask your vet for a prescription and shop around. Good luck hope it works for your horse.

I swear it greatly slowed down the rate at which William's were rupturing & leaking, but unfortunately for him it was too little too late. I do think it allowed him to have a last, good summer though so I feel it was money well spent. If I'd known then what I do now I'd have asked for it earlier but in those days it was still a trial treatment for melanomas.

A quick google search has shown the following stockist

Thank you it does seem a little hit and miss and is just so expensive when its not guaranteed to work. I'm sure when I worked it out a couple of years ago it was only about £40 per month.

Hi my friend did shop around and in the end got a pescription from the vets and bought it from a normal pharmacy! As apparently the drug is used on humans vaguely remember it has something to do with ulcers for us! Anyway it worked on his brilliantly on her horse and reduced the size of the lumps!
