As the title says really
My fields have public footpaths surrounding them and I am sick to death of tell people not to feed the horses, especially now they have started feeding them the surround farms crops...
 
IME, you might as well not bother, because no-one will take the slightest bit of notice. We have footpaths running through neighbours fields and find that walkers deviate from the paths to feed our horses over the walls. Notices have made no difference, neither has asking people directly.
But then the notices warning that dogs chasing sheep could be shot don't seem to make any difference either.
 
The only sign that I know of that worked, was worded: 'by order of the Vet, do not feed this pony anything, thank you' and was combined with an electric fence that kept the pony out of reach from the walkers.

For some reason, people forgot how to read without the fence. :p
 
I saw a clear sign the other week: 'Please do not feed these retired laminitic (diabetic) horses'. It explains to non horsey people and horsey people.

There are lots of signs on eBay. It's more, IMO, a question of explaining and saying why the horses shouldn't be fed, which is ridiculous, but people think because they can touch the horses, then it's fine to feed them. P!sses me right off, quite frankly.

How about 'Please don't feed my horse and I won't stuff your child/dog full of crap' ? Pet hate of mine, am forever telling people not to feed the horses. :mad:
