I would like to take my daughter out this year to a few lead rein classes but the cost of lead rein outfits is making my eyes water! Does anyone know of anywhere I can buy the outfits at a reasonable price? x

Horse Gossip alwasy has a lot of childrens size jackets as does ebay - a reasonable jacket is about £50 second hand, but you will be able to sell for the same money if you look after it properly. You also need a strap riding hat for the child.

Once you have got a jscket for the child, then start trying to find something to complement it - if you go to one of the big M&S you can often find a jacket and skirt in their cheaper section/sale for under £60.

If you are doing show pony lead rein, it is much easier as the child is in navy and you can wear what you like. for SHP and M&M matching tweeds is really hard - so unless you have a fortune to spend on buying identical jackets, don't go down that route.

We didn't have matching outfits and it did not stop us doing RIHS and HOYS qualifiers (admittedly we only made 17th out of 44 ponies in our HOYS qualifier but we were not last!). So unless you reckon on trying to win a HOYS qualifier, go down the cheap(er) route I outlined above!

Do you mean for yourself or your daughter?

I took mine out last year (only locally) and wore navy trousers and waistcoat, dark shirt, jodhpur boots. I realise I should have had a hat!

I've recently got myself a tweed jacket so will probably use that this year perhaps with the navy trousers. Still haven't found a hat I like. I did see several people in riding hats so maybe that is an option???

For daughters, I picked them up jackets second hand at local tackshop. Cream jods from eBay.
