I'm looking for the nice thick cotton lead rope without clips or attachments.

I can't buy the ready made one I have to replace that has a loop with 2 clips (works by clipping to each side of the headcollar) so I want to make one. I can find plenty of the nylon cord, but I want the nice thick cotton rope that I can at least hang onto.

Any ideas of suppliers please?

Thanks, ive been to quite a few and online, most suggesting the nylon otherwise the cotton rope that won't last (especially with a horse on the end of it) I've also found a firm in the US that do the type of configuration I'm looking for but again only in nylon.

Will keep looking.

If you do find someone who still makes them can you let me know, I bought one over 25 years ago and it lasted me over 20 years, the best kit for leading out stroppy horses.

I got some red cotton rope from B&Q last year

It was a tubular woven rope and I am sure the core was cotton too

You may have to buy a lead rope and change the clips, I used to do this, but I can't recall where my last long rope came from, the chandlers have a tub with off cuts, look in there.

Hadn't thought to dismantle a halter! But MrsD is right I'm looking for the old fashioned cotton ropes (my grip is really poor and I find it easier with that style of rope)

years ago when I had a tackshop I used to import them from the US, however am finding my remaining few starting to give up the ghost! This is what it looks like, but I obviously want the cotton version and have the clips and the guards from the two that have died already http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sound-Equ...ne-Green-/370635576425?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
