I will be out of action for a couple of months from the end of feb as I'll have my leg in a cast ( reattaching ligaments-nothing to do with my lovely horse) so I've been looking for someone to keep my boy ridden during that time-I've emailed the local uni riding clubs with no joy, my local riding club, and spoken to a couple of people at my yard all to no avail.

So would you recommend taking a wanted ad out? Im afraid of having lots of daytrippers as im not after any financial contribution .

Where would you recommend looking for a rider? If I have to go down the paying someone route, I have no idea where I would even start to look!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Whereabouts in Nth Cheshire are you, I may be able to help you out

You could speak with local riding schools and see if they know of any competent and responsible adults that would be interested? If it's anything like my local riding school they will have a lot of adults who have owned their own horses in the past, are v experienced but just can't afford to do more than a lesson a week in the current climate but would be delighted to exercise your horse for you.

Thanks for your replies everyone, horse is near Frodsham, i'd not thought of trying my local pony club- that might be a good idea- i'll have a quick google to find them!

Im wary of putting up a preloved ad, as i think , possibly wrongly that it might attract the day-tripper sort?

I'll try and see if i can contact a few more riding clubs that might be around- the thing is ive not long moved to the area so am not really super familiar with the local riding club circuit yet...but will definitely give it a bit more research!

Sorry i read this as riding clubs- yes riding schools is a great idea! thanks! i hadnt thought of that- do you think they might mind me potentially stealing a client for a while though?

It's worth a try, plus if they are near you you could say that you would be keen for the rider to have lessons on your horse with them - that way you're not stealing their client and you can be confident that they're getting some professional help to keep them up to scratch and correct any problems they have.

I know not all riding schools are the same, but whilst I'm horse hunting I'm having weekly lessons with the advanced adult group at my local school which is full of experienced horsey people that have owned in the past but that just don't have the time or money to have their own horse, but everyone there would be more than capable of exercising someone else's horse and taking very good care of it. I suppose it very much depends on the riding school though!

Try Cheshire Hunt North or Cheshire Hunt South Pony Clubs, they both cover members in your area. Otherwise perhaps a notice at Gibsons tack & feed might help? There are a couple of riding clubs near you too - Antrobus, Delamere Forest at Richard Carruthers', and Bridgewater. They all have FB or web pages.

Good luck.
