We realised this morning that our dog has managed to get through the fence in the early hours of the morning. I have put notices up in the area and searched, asked people etc. I have the number of the local dog warden and was trying to find the number of the local rspca, but it seems very fragmented. Are there any other agencies I should contact? I don't think he will have gone really far - he is too old, lame and short of breath.

go to www.doglost.co.uk and log him there asap, And phone Jayne on the onscreen number and get lots of advice. They will help you tie all the agencies together and give you lots of help with postering. Good luck, I know how horrible it is as I've lost one myself in the past but Doglost where great

Contact the police, and keep checkingback with them as they are not always very good at linking lost dogs to found ones. Dog warden is a must, then I would phone all the vets in your area. As its the school holidays its worth asking local children to keep a look out. If you have a local radio station, contact them and ask them to put a description out, ditto local paper. Also contact dog lost http://www.doglost.co.uk/page.aspx?pg=72.
Hope he turns up soon.

Thank you for all the replies - he was only in the back garden of the house over the road - rolling on their lawn! They rang the number on his collar (he is chipped as well). I've walked miles, knocked on loads of doors on in the area where I could see people were up, stopped walkers and cyclist and posted loads of notices!!!! Its surprising how many people have noticed us taking him for walks since we have had him.

O thank god you have found him
