Sadly the horse I was going to buy failed his vetting. Needless to say I am absolutely gutted as he was lovely.

I am still looking for an ex racer straight from the track. Does anyone know any racing yards that sell their ex racers? Preferably south england.

Thanks

There's a ton of racing yards in South England, lol! :p Are you looking for a flat or jumper? Best bet is to email or ring the yards aorund you and i'll bet a few will have something going.

Flat ideally.

Have called a couple, but to no avail. I have one contact who is great, so will see what they have in the coming weeks. Just wanted a couple of options.

The local ones to me (portsmouth area ish) all send to the sales or rescue places!

Its kind of the wrong time of year to look for a flat racehorse straight out of the yard as they are almost ready for the flat season so will be mainly new owners majority of horses are all ok with not many broke down yet! The end of the season is the best kind of time so you would no doubt have more luck with a NH horse. If you have no joy doncaster sales are good and asot sales. Doncaster usually have a better quality than ascot sales so doncaster are a little more expensive but you can get one from doncaster for around 600. You can look up pat sales results to get a rough idea of prices. Hope that helps you a little

I;ve heard of one from the RoR board on facebook who's at a race yard where she said they sell them too good homes through word of mouth only for about £100 if you're interested.

All apparantly well bred etc and have all been in racing, though turn them out for 2 months before selling on.

Surrey area.

Wonderful. Someone else giving an ex-racer a chance :)

I've been on the RoR site many times and it is so refreshing seeing some of the stuff these beasties get up to after racing and the support you can get if it's needed.

There are 3 retraining centres in the south you could contact on their website though I would contact themselves first. It can only help to match you to the right horse from the start.

Only found out about the site after i got mine. This thread has given me the kick up the butt to go register him on there. BTW mine was pure accident - Jenny Pitman yard (definitely) pacehorse (alledgedly), 2 races but looked like he was having a happy gallop but accelerates like a missile - sold to nephew's wife, she couldn't handle him at all, moaned about him at the riding school we both went to, eventually came in and anounced to everyone she had said horse for sale (everyone looked the other way except...) sold on to me - complete novice and luckily I''m surrounded by alot of helpful ppl. Wouldn't have taken him on otherwise...

Can't talk enough about ex-racers and giving them a new life. If mine is anything to go by, after some very good and continuing lessons he is awesome.. I was the same with rescue dogs.. :) Sorry... meandering verbal Diarrhoea over.

Gratuitous photo. Sorry again.
