as title says, im thinking of taking on an ex racer to re school/bring on etc however not sure where to start looking? id rather get them directly from the breeder/trainer, is this possible?

i feel i should mention im expereinced breaking/schooling/training and well aware of the difficulties

Don't know about trainers etc
but Horsequest has a ex racer section and sometimes racing yards advertise on there

if you go to any trainer they should be able find something and if not then ask them to keep you in mind. or you could go to a sale but dont no how u feel about this. wat area you in cuz this is kinda my side of things do alot of race recop work with dad and there lots not sutible to race again looking for new homes

I found mine (accidentally) when I went to look round a yard. He was injured and they wanted to find a good home for him. So definitely worth approaching local yards directly. Good luck

Try your local yards: I did this last year, some replied, and some did not, but worth enquiring. I got my previous horse after he came out of training due to an injury from a top class trainer not far away. Also look on the Retraining of Racehorses website. The Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre is in Lancashire, so not far from you. One of the good things about taking a horse from one of these centres is that if anything goes wrong they take them back, and give you a lot of help with them. Good luck.

We have two. One from a yard, one from HEROS. They are both fab horses. Getting one from HEROS really made the whole thing less stressful as they will help find the right one for you. My HEROS horse was straight from his racing yard, just looked over and assessed at HEROS and he was with me 2 weeks after leaving training. But they made a perfect match to us. They are so helpful... Grace Muir runs it and she is a real expert in this field. Look at the ROR website for a link and give her a ring. She will be delighted to help you I am sure. Good Luck!
