I am going to make my own fly spray, and about to run off to the chemist - but will they actually sell it?

How much should i expect to pay for it?

I must seem so dumb but I've always bought fly spray before!

Theres no problem buying it from a chemists or herbal type green shop. You just cannot buy it mixed into fly repellent.

I wouldnt muck about making your own mixture. Just buy some oil and tip it into a bottle of horse fly spray!

I use either bog standard citronella or, if i can get it, Neem oil. I just put a few drops in my normal fly repellent.

I get mine from Tesco's Pharmacy - 60mls for about £3.50 I think it was last year - works out much cheaper than buying it 10mls at a time.

Best place on the web is http://www.essentialoilsdirect.co.uk/

I pay for 100 ml of citronella - £6.50 but I always spend more than £40 to get their wholesale prices. If you don't pay wholesale prices then it is £13 for 100 ml. I get citronella, lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus and cedarwood (Virginian) which are all part of my fly spray mix. I also buy peppermint and then various lovely room oils so it is easy to spend the £40 - and I spend £50 and get free delivery - the oils last for ages if kept in a cool dark place - I have used them after 18 months no problem.

sodapop - I dont plan to use the neem as the base oil, just because I thought it may be a bit too concentrated. I plan to add to a 500ml spray bottle of water. Along with about 50 drops of Tea Tree and caledula oils. Im not very hot on my mixing of oils but this is what someone recommended to me!

I have also been given a recipe for a fly / midge repellent although I havent tried it yet: 500ml bottle of water and add 60 drops each of teatree, lavender and eucalyptus smithii.
