Where to go from here....

As others have said, I would have the front feet looked at - but your description of the back end collapsing rang bells with me. My old ex-racer TB started doing that while hacking out - to cut a long story short he was found to have serious and long-standing sacroiliac problems (probably the result of a bad fall while racing) that in fact never recovered 100%, despite many months of physio.

A few months before the collapses started, he started putting in the odd (and inexplicable) really awkward jump, despite being a pretty good and consistent jumper most of the time. I gave up jumping him after a really dirty stop put me in a blackthorn hedge! But with hindsight it was probably all down to the sacroiliac problem.

Your boy is lovely - hope you find it's an easily-sorted problem.

Sally2008 - thanks for those, will have a good read. His hoof angle and shape has changed since the shoes came off so will see if I can do some before/after with my old photos.

And for those who suggested a chiro, he was seen by someone who claimed to be a chiro (who is regarded as something of a miracle worker by some!) who spent 10 mins with him, did a bit of bone crunching and told me nothing was wrong with him!! I stuck with our physio after that!

When you were first referred to the horsepital, were you insured, and why did the vets not do a full lameness work up while he was there?

Nope, south east! There is more than one clearly!! He was at vets for 10 days. All they could find were suspensory changes in hocks, thats it. As far as I know the bonescan was just of his back/back end. No one mentioned feet. Yes he was insured and claim came to about £4k in total I think. I have all sorts of restrictions in place but think it only refers to his hocks.
