Ok so i am looking to buy an ex racehorse, I have had a fair bit of experience re-schooling ex racehorses as my previous boss used to buy a few every year but i am not sure where from.

Whatever horse i get i intend on keeping long term in a very good home, mainly for hacking and for competing just locally, and generally hopefully to become a good allrounder, Also as a companion for my youngster for if something happens to the two oldies.

I have seen a couple of times on here people mentioning picking up ex racers for very cheap/ next to nothing prices.
My ex boss said he generally paid £500 for each one that he bought but like i say i'm not sure where he got them from.
It also doesnt strictly have to be an ex racer just something over 15hh and fairly cheap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. x

thanks cheiro1 i just had a look at the site, had never heard of them i shall look into it, just want to give one a good home x

You can buy them straight off the trainers, which is cheaper. The racing yard I work at sells the retired racers for £500 - £1000 I think. I suppose you could find a local racehorse trainer and give them a ring asking if they have any retired horses for sale

darley are great, they only charge £120 and you get a 3 month trial and they will only give you a horse thats right for you

thanks guys i would be willing to pay up to £1000 for one, dont care if its a mare or gelding or colour etc, preferably a taller one as i am quite tall but like i say upwards of 15hh , i am in the north east of scotland dont know of any local race yards but i woud be willing to travel a decnt distance x
